2024 NORTH SHORE FRESHWATER CHAMPIONSHIP

The regatta is organised and hosted by the Pupuke Boating Club (Inc), Milford
and will be sailed in Lake Pupuke over the weekend 18th 19th May 2024


SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

1.0Rules
the Regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2021 - 2024 (the rules)
2.0Notices to Competitors
Notices to competitors will be posted on the official noticeboard at the clubhouse.
3.0Changes to Sailing Instructions
Any changes will be posted at least 30 minutes prior to the first warning signal of a racing session.
4.0Signals Made Ashore
Signals made ashore will be displayed at the tower.
5.0Schedule of Races
Seven races, each approximately 35 minutes, are scheduled:
Saturday    1130   4 races back-to-back
Sunday     1130   3 races back-to-back
A separate start may be accorded any class or division with six or more entrants
On the water, instructions regarding race starts and courses may be given verbally.
6.0Courses and Marks
Five orange teardrops are permanently located around the lake perimeter.
Attachment MAP, and the blackboard at the clubhouse, show the lake, the marks, and possible course configurations.
the most windward orange teardrop will be mark#1
the next orange teardrop to port or starboard, will be mark#2
The course to be sailed will be notified prior to the warning signal, by displaying numeral pennant '1', '2' or '3' over a Red or Green shape denoting Port or Starboard hand
The marks will be rounded in the following order:
 numeral '1'   1 - 2 - 3  - fin
 numeral '2'   1 - 2 - 3  -  1 - 2 - 3  - fin
 numeral '3'   1 - 2 - 3  -  1 - 2 - 3  -  1 - 2 - 3  - fin
a port course will be favored - weather permitting
7.0The Start
Races will be started using rule 26 with a 3 minute start sequence (3,2,1,go)
the warning signal for any succeeding class will be made not less than one minute after the starting signal of the preceeding class.
For back-to-back races, the first warning signal of the next sequence of starts will be preceeded by the display of the orange start-line flag for at least two minutes.
The start line shall be between an orange startline flag displayed either on the committee boat or in a cone on the beach, and an orange tear-drop which may or may not be, mark #3 of the course.
8.0Change the Course (altering rule 33)
At a mark of the course, the committee boat will make periodic sounds and display 'C' over a Red or Green flag. The next mark lies to Port or Starboard of the original mark. Subsequent marks are as stated in SI 6.0
Any directional confusion may be resolved by using 'L' on a lead boat.
9.0Shorten the Course (additional to rule 32)
On a leg of the course, the committee boat will make sounds and show 'S' over '1',
meaning that the remaining course is to the NEXT mark, thence to the normal finish line.
10.0The Finish (except when rule 32 'S' is in effect)
The finish line is between a blue flag in a cone on the beach and a small orange buoy laid to the south or east.
11.0Penalty system
rule 44 is altered to require a One-turn (360°) Penalty for a breach of a Part-2 rule.
12.0Time Limits (additional to rule 35)
In any race, a starter that has not finished within 5 minutes of the first boat, may be scored as DNF for that race.
No warning signal shall be made after 1430 on the Sunday
13.0Protests
Protests regarding an incident in a session shall be delivered to a race officer within 15 minutes of the last boat to finish the races of that session.
Appendix T 'Arbitration' will be offered as a means of resolving protests
14.0Scoring
Appendix A will apply, with three races being completed to constitute the Championship.
Once four races have been completed, a boat's score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
15.0Prizes
Prizes will be allocated firstly to Class event winners, thence to placegetters in standard age divisions, thence to 'winners' of a spot-prize procedure
16.0Disclaimer
As per rule 4, competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. The organizing authority cannot accept any liability for material damage or personal injury sustained in conjunction with the regatta
