SAILING  INSTRUCTIONS

1.0    The Rules

The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2025 -2028  (the rules)

2.0  Notice to Competitors

Notices to competitors will be posted on the official noticeboard at the clubhouse.

3.0   Changes to Sailing Instructions

Any changes to the Sailing Instructions will be posted before 0930 on the day.

2.0   Signals Made Ashore

Signals made ashore will be displayed at the tower or in a cone on shore.

5.0    Schedule of Races

5.1    Five races, each approximately 35 minutes, are scheduled in one session:

Sunday         warning         1030              up to 5 races   back-to-back        

5.2    A separate start may be accorded any class or division with six or more entrants

5.3    No warning signal will made after 1500

6.0    Courses and Marks

Six orange bouys are permanently located in the ‘corners’ of the lake.

Attachment MAP shows the lake, the marks, and possible course configurations.

6.1   Triangular course

The most windward buoy will be mark#1.  Mark#2 will be the adjacent buoy, to either port or starboard of mark#1.

6.2   The course to be sailed will be notified prior to the warning signal, by displaying numeral pennant ‘1’  or  ‘2’   and a Red or Green shape denoting Port or Starboard hand

6.3   The marks will be rounded in the following order:

           numeral ‘1’               1 –  3  —  1 — 3   —  fin                  (2  x  W / L)

numeral ‘2’               1 –  2  –  3  –-  1 — 2 — 3  –  fin   (2  x  T )       

           A port course will be favored, weather permitting

6.4      The initial course for a session will be demonstrated on a blackboard at the  clubhouse prior to the first warning signal for that session

6.5      On the water, instructions regarding the course may be given verbally prior to a start

7.0    The Start

7.1   Races will be started as per rule 26, using a 3 minute sequence. (3 2 1 go).

The warning signal for any succeeding class will be made not less than one minute after the starting signal of the preceding class.

7.2      For back-to-back races, the first warning signal of the next sequence of starts will occur not less than three minutes after the finish of the previous races, and will be preceded by a display of the orange start line flag for at least two minutes.

7.3      the start line shall be between the orange start line flag either on the committee boat or in a cone on the beach, and an orange buoy which may or may not be mark #3 of the course.

8.0      Change the course

The course of a race will not  be changed during that race.

9.0    Shorten the Course           additional to rule 32

On a leg of the course, the committee boat will make sounds and show ‘S’ over ‘1’, meaning that the remaining course is to the NEXT mark, thence to the normal FINISH LINE.

10.0    The Finish  (except when rule 32 is active)

The finish line will be between a cone on the beach displaying an blue flag and a small orange buoy laid to the south-east. This may or may not be the start line

11.0    Penalty System

Changing rule 44.1 – the penalty for a breach of a Part-2 rule is a One -Turn Penalty    

12.0    Time Limits additional to rule 35

A starter not finished within 10 minutes of the first boat to finish, may be scored DNF

13.0    Protests

Protest forms are available at the tower or clubhouse. Protests involving incidents in a session of races shall be delivered within 15 minutes of the last boat to finish the last race of that session

Arbitration will be offered as means of resolving protests.

14.0    Scoring

14.1   Appendix A will apply, with two races being completed to constitute the Championship

14.2   After three completed races, a boat’s worst score will be dropped from her total

15.0    Prizes

Prizes will be allocated firstly to placegetters in ‘standard’ age divisions (30+  45+ 55+  65+ 75+   Women),  then to ‘winners’ of a spot-prize procedure

16.0    Disclaimer

As per rule 4, competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. The organizing authority cannot accept any liability for material damage or personal injury sustained in conjunction with the regatta.
